Logan Hospital Expansion Stage 2

Logan Hospital services one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions and is home to one of the state’s busiest emergency departments, with demand for healthcare continuing to rise.

To help meet this growing demand, Logan Hospital Stage 2 will significantly expand the hospital’s capacity through the delivery of a new surgical and inpatient care facility (Building 4). The project comprises a new seven-storey building located between the existing multi-storey car park and Building 3, providing critical additional clinical and support spaces.

Designed in collaboration with Studio STH, the project focuses on optimising capacity, functionality, and operational efficiency, ensuring the facility supports patients, staff, and visitors both now and into the future. The design approach challenged the original concept to improve connectivity across the hospital campus, resulting in the creation of a new cam-pus heart on Level 02. This central public realm strengthens wayfinding, unifies movement between buildings, and provides a welcoming focal point for patients, visitors, and staff.

Project scope includes:

• New front-of-house and patient support areas
• 112 inpatient beds
• 10 operating theatres, with shell space for a further four
• 6 endoscopy rooms including ensuite associated with negative-pressure isolation room
• Centralised Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD)
• 3 catheterisation laboratories, including one interventional radiology laboratory
• Expanded pharmacy services
• Additional administration spaces supporting clinical functions
• New loading dock, back-of-house facilities, and provision for a future kitchen

The new facility will provide a contemporary, welcoming environment for patients and visitors, while delivering a significant uplift in healthcare capacity for Logan and the wider community – supporting one of Queensland’s most rapidly growing regions.
